Heritage’s varsity football team performed beyond expectations this season after winning the 2-A district championships. Star offensive players this season included runningback Sony Michel, who carried over 1,500 yards and sophomore quarterback Gunnar Holcombe, who threw over 1,000 yards. In defense, senior linebacker Joey Harmon lead the Patriot this season with over 75 tackles and seven sacks. “The team really grew and got better each week,” said Coach Byron Walker.

Swimming/Diving

Both the boys and the girls performed at a level better than last year, according to Coach Nobuku Tan. The boys team improved significantly, with district champion and state runner-up senior Les Moore (first time in Heritage history) and district runner up senior Yousef Alaskari. For the girls, senior Melissa Cooper won the State meet in 100 breaststroke and senior Courtney and freshman Jessica Randolph placed top 8 in the state. The girls team suffered a toll without sophomore Lauren Driscoll but still won fourth in the state competition.

Golf

The girls varsity golf team had another great season, winning the state FHSAA state championship for the fourth time in the last five years. In the individual state championship, junior Kyle Roig won the first placetitle for the second time in her high school career while senior Shelby Coyle placed fifth in the state. While the girls team had another spectacular year, the boys golf team’s challenging schedule was an obstacle to the young players; the boys team failed to make the state tournament.
