Although any Heritage student, whether he or she prefers community service, fine arts, or even political or philosophical discussion, certainly has a myriad of options when choosing which clubs to join on campus, some places have groups to satisfy even the most obscure of tastes.

The Squirrel Club

Where: The University of Michigan

Can’t contain your excitement every time you see a bushy-tailed rodent scurry up a tree? Here you can meet fellow squirrel enthusiasts and participate in a variety of activities, including squirrel observing and squirrel preservation education. According to the club’s official page, its purpose is devotion to the squirrels of Ann Harbor, and to “feed them, observe them, and admire them.” And in a sign of good faith characteristic of such squirrel lovers, the club will take members at any time and requires no membership fee.

The Vacuum Cleaner Collectors Club (VCCC)

Where: International (online community at vacuumland.org)

If you love the dust-fighting machines (or have some Hoovers hidden around the house), then the VCCC will help you connect with others who share a passion for vacuums. Vacuumland.org (the official VCCC website) provides forums promoting vacuum discussions as well as an online gallery for members to upload and show off pictures of their collections. The site even has a Vacuum of the Day to showcase one special cleaner every 24 hours.

The International Quidditch Association

Where: International

The fast-moving, high-flying, snitch-snatching fantastical sport of Quidditch no longer ends with the closing of a Harry Potter novel or the ending credits of one of the movies in the series. Now nearly 300 legitimate Quidditch teams are present around the world, and many high schools and colleges, such as Middlebury and Harvard around the US are accepting the sport as well. Although the sport, in which players run around with broomsticks between their legs in pursuit of a gold-clad “Snitch” (a fellow team member), the sport unfortunately takes place on the ground, on foot…for now.
